Suits with Submersible LED Lighting
For the celebration of Fluidra's 50th Anniversary, the company created a great aquatic light and sound show.
For this, they counted on the artistic direction of Franc Aleu and the synchronized swimming team of Club Kallipolis led by Anna Tarrés.
For this show, we were asked to design and manufacture 15 controlled submersible LED lighting units, which had to be placed in a swimsuit worn by the synchronized swimming during the show.
The underwater lighting system must also communicate via radio frequency (RF) to synchronize with the music and the show, and be autonomous and flexible so that the synchronized swimmers can swim.
Technological Solution
Water, the worst enemy for electronics
In this application, several challenges were solved:
- The lighting of the suits was done using flexible LED strips to which we performed a sealing process.
- A box was designed and manufactured with the control equipment, which was subjected to a sealing treatment. This box, in addition to carrying the control, the radio frequency equipment and the battery, had to be able to be carried by the swimmers.
- The entire LED strip and its cables were placed in the suits, and had to be flexible enough to allow the swimmers to move in the water.
- Each suit was autonomous, with a battery sufficient for the duration of the show and radio frequency communication for synchronization with the control of the show.
